This poem of Crane showcases again the ambivalent relationship of the human being to an unknown god. While the man imagines a merciful god in his "inner thoughts" the reality proves, that god is merciless and brutal.
What could be a better genre than Metal to set this poem to music? Inspired by Giacomo's abilities I have written a fast Power-Metal track with some little twists.
Looking forward I am working on another Mid-tempo Metal-track, which will uncover my Steely Dan influence and a longer instrumental track, which is called "mankind" and will point back to the last instrumental track on "Black riders part 1", which was called "Gods".
A man went before a strange God --
The God of many men, sadly wise.
And the deity thundered loudly,
Fat with rage, and puffing.
"Kneel, mortal, and cringe
And grovel and do homage
To My Particularly Sublime Majesty."
The man fled.
Then the man went to another God --
The God of his inner thoughts.
And this one looked at him
With soft eyes
Lit with infinite comprehension,
And said, "My poor child!"
