about

I come back with an original song, which I started to compose years ago, I guess somewhere around 2004. I came up with a harmonically quirky Rhodes-track and some percussion and I also had the melody for verse and chorus-section laid down completely, but at one point the creative process stopped and I could not finish it, though it had fitted perfectly on my 2004' album "straight to the brain", particularly because it had been a nice contrast to the other more guitar-driven songs. Actually I recognize a creative flow and a few weeks ago I could finish the song with ease.
I ended up with the unusual instrumentation: Fender Rhodes, violin, percussion, choir. It's a mellow song, some crazy chords are used, at the end the violin is playing unisono-lines with the keys creating a slight jazz-fusion vibe.

lyrics

by E. E. Cummings, 1894 - 1962

maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to the beach(to play one day)

and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn’t remember her troubles,and

milly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;

and molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:and

may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone.

For whatever we lose(like a you or a me)
it’s always ourselves we find in the sea
