This poem of Stephen Crane calls for something really heavy and dark, so I try to capture the atmosphere with some brutal riffing in a marching tempo as if the mountains are coming nearer. The song is divided in three parts following the structure of the poem: First the observations of the main character; second the talk with to one near him; third the conclusion of the main character. As in many of Crane’s poems a little human stands against an almighty power. A little man stands here against not just one mountain, he stands against a front of many mountains. And though the battle seems hopeless, the poem calls to face this unequal confrontation. Musically I play around with classic Metal-Riffs, which shift over the steady beat, because they are not played in usual lengths resulting in some poly-rhythmic structures. So the song is not as straight as you think from the first listen.
Recording notes: After some years playing my BC Rich Stealth I come in this song back to my custom made Kortmann Super-Strat, which was build for me around 1990. The reason is, that the BC Rich with its Gibson-scale is not able to reproduce a C-Tuning, which I tend to prefer for my Metal-project meanwhile. I strung the Strat with 11-56 string-gauge and the low E is now well defined. You will also recognise, that the guitar-sound is more polished. This is caused by the EMG Pickups of the Kortmann-Strat.

lyrics
lyrics
Once I saw mountains angry,
And ranged in battle-front.
Against them stood a little man;
Aye, he was no bigger than my finger.
I laughed, and spoke to one near me,
"Will he prevail?"
"Surely," replied this other;
"His grandfathers beat them many times."
Then did I see much virtue in grandfathers --
At least, for the little man
Who stood against the mountains.
(Stephen Crane)

Heartscore, a German-italian studio-project (no live-shows planned) bring back the power of classic Heavy Metal paired with some Prog- and Thrash-Metal influences.

Far out is an excellent descriptor for GOATS latest release. While saying that, if feels personal and nostalgic at times too. Never a dull moment as they say. It’s just really cool. Take a listen to it.. Acef Stripe
