Meanwhile it’s three months ago since I posted „To Helen“ and as you surely remember I promised, that Adam Malin would arrange this song and you would get a second version.
Finally I proudly present the result. Adam is the keyboard-player of a very fine progressive rock band called „XNA“. Lovers of the classic era of Prog a la early Genesis and Yes should not hesitate to visit their homepage at
Adam did a great job with the arrangement. He has played all keyboard-parts live following my basic piano-part and ended up with around fourty stems, so it was a real challenge for me to mix the track. At the end „To Helen“ turned to orchestral with nice additions of percussion, strings and harpsichord.
lyrics
To Helen (Edgar Allan Poe)
Helen, thy beauty is to me
Like those Nicéan barks of yore,
That gently, o'er a perfumed sea,
The weary, way-worn wanderer bore
To his own native shore.
On desperate seas long wont to roam,
Thy hyacinth hair, thy classic face,
Thy Naiad airs have brought me home
To the glory that was Greece,
And the grandeur that was Rome.
Lo! in yon brilliant window-niche
How statue-like I see thee stand,
The agate lamp within thy hand!
Ah, Psyche, from the regions which
Are Holy-Land!
