This new song is based on another very dark and black poem of Stephen Crane. As usual he creates strong and imaginative pictures. Could you imagine, that the earth starts to roll? And it rolls away? But though the world rolls away the main character is left somewhere in black terror and limitless night. So it might be not the physical earth, who rolls away like in a new catastrophe-movie of the modern hollywood. The personal world of the human is rolling away, maybe everything what he believed in or his loved ones are gone. However he wishes, that the white arms (of his wife?) are there to hold him though he can not escape from the fall.
These words calls for a heavy track, though I tried to capture the desire of „If though and thy white arms were there“ with the use of a more melodic and romantic section. Musically I used one specific rhythm-figure throughout the song to achieve some coherence. Most unusual might be the fast change of eight and quarter-feel during the verse. It’s also a while ago since I used harmonics on the guitar so extensively. One word about the middle part, where both guitars play at once and it sounds chaotic: The left guitar is playing the same as the right one, but backwards :-)
